一辆旅游面包车上载着去往延寿村的乘客，年轻的警察段翔正是其中的一位。半路天下起了暴雪，几人被困荒山野岭之中，为了躲避暴风雪，段翔带着大家来到了当地无人敢靠近的凶宅——林家大宅。到了林家才知道这一天刚好是林家主人林世英女儿林含雪的头七之日，但大家也无路可退，只能借住一晚。就在这一晚，离奇事件一个接一个的发生，现场所有的线索全部指向了一个人——已经死去的林含雪身上。段翔觉得事有蹊跷，必须把事情查清楚。经过一番调查，他在几个当事人身上发现了千丝万缕的关系，多年前一个惊人的秘密被一层层揭开。就在真像一点点浮出水面的时候，悲剧却降临在段翔的身上。。丁大地为留美农科学生，打算返港培植灵芝。但此计划受到大哥，犬嫂及父亲反对。唯一支持他的人是村长广荫和自少对大地倾慕的孙女宝珠。培植灵芝的计划进行困难，此时，火地遇上乐灵。她是一位广告界新进，同时亦是隐瞒了身份的未婚妈妈。为了事业的发展和隐瞒男友王家明！灵将女儿芝交托别人照顾，但阴差阳错，女儿竟落在大地手中。大地愿意一边照顾芝，一边培植灵芝。灵对大地十分感激，决定协助他推广灵芝事业。。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
