由久米田康治原作的《绝望先生》，于2005年开始在讲谈社周刊少年Magazine连载。作品是以12页的独立单元式短篇开展故事，在每一话中，大量渗入对日本的社会现象及自我的嘲讽，并基于作者本身的学识，使用自行创作或特定的词彙，带出有关事件，以及有关的笑点。因此作品内隐藏（或不明显）的物件及文字、让知情者会心微笑的时事材料、诙谐式模彷及笑话的内容，成为作品的最大特色。后来根据本作改编的两季TV动画、在新房昭之监督的带领下更是展现出不失原作风格的魅力。 之前曾推出两部动画版的「绝望先生」，此次迎来了其第三次的动画化。新作标题为「狱・绝望先生」、并决定将以OAD的形式推出。在去年推出的「翼 TOKYO REVELATIONS」OAD版大获成功之后，最近讲谈社旗下的作品推出的OAD初回限定版都是以DVD捆绑漫画来发售，比如即将发售的「魔法先生白之翼」和「校园迷...。Women on the Run.
